Editorial Policy: Sources, Tide Data and Corrections

Our aim is to make official tide information easier to understand while being clear about what a prediction can and cannot tell a visitor.

Source selection

NOAA is the source for the displayed astronomical tide predictions. We use the National Weather Service for weather and coastal-hazard information, the Town of Ocean City for local facilities and Beach Patrol guidance, the National Park Service for Assateague access and wildlife rules, and Maryland DNR for fishing and crabbing information.

Numerical data

The tide tool states the station, local time zone, vertical datum and retrieval time. It caches NOAA responses to avoid requesting identical monthly data on every visit. If retrieval fails, the tool provides an official source link rather than generating substitute numbers. Archived years remain labelled as predictions for that year.

Guide review and limits

We review text against cited sources when editing it. We do not claim continuous telemetry monitoring, independent hydrographic measurements, professional navigation advice or a guaranteed update interval. Agency rules and access conditions can change between edits; readers should follow the official links before an outing.

Corrections

Email [email protected] with the page URL, the disputed statement and a supporting source. We assess the report and correct material errors where supported. An article’s modified date indicates an edit, not an assurance that every external condition was rechecked at that time.

Publisher identity

Guides use the site name as the publisher. We do not use invented expert biographies or claim tests that were not performed. See About and the disclaimer for the site’s role.
